Fresh calls for more bus shelters in east Donegal - Donegal News

MORE bus shelters have been called for “extremely busy” routes in east Donegal.
Claims of inadequate bus stops and shelters were made at the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District (MD) meeting yesterday.
Cathaoirleach of the MD, councillor Patrick McGowan, again shared his concerns for people using bus services across east Donegal.
He previously raised the issue at a meeting of the MD in January.
At yesterday’s meeting, Cllr McGowan called for a meeting with Bus Éireann and the council roads team on the matter.
“We have a report on the bus shelters and we’ve been talking for two years about the one in Convoy and the one in Castlefin. When are they going to be designed?,” he said.
“We need as councillors to see where the new bus shelters in Killygordon, Castlefin, Lifford, Drumkeen, are being done.
“We need to be consulted and discuss – on behalf of the public – to see where they’re going and what the schedule is.”
The Fianna Fáil councillor added: “There’s no busier route for buses than through Killygordon, Castlefin down to Lifford. The amount of students and elderly and people going to shops, they’re extremely busy.
“You only have to be driving through to see the amount of people in the mornings and evenings standing in the rain with no shelter. There’s not even proper bus stops.
“Then you have Ballybofey and Stranorlar. The bus stops there are all in the wrong place. They’re not proper bus stops.
“Maybe one in Ballybofey, one in Lifford, none on the Letterkenny road and none in the middle of Stranorlar.
“We need to have a meeting with Bus Éireann and our road design”.
In response, Area Engineer, Claire McGeever said that the issue would be addressed in an upcoming workshop to examine the specific improvement priority list.
