Privacy policy

Who is responsible
Heart Media Ltd operates NewsRoom.ie and is the controller of personal data processed through this website. This policy explains what information is handled, why it is used and the rights available to you.
Information we handle
County choices: when you use My county, your selected counties are saved in your browser on your device. NewsRoom.ie does not require an account for this feature and does not receive those choices as account data.
Administrator accounts: if you are authorised to manage news feeds, we process your email address, account identifier, sign-in information and assigned role so that we can provide and secure access.
Technical information: our hosting and security services may process routine request details such as IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps and diagnostic or security events. This information is used to deliver, protect and troubleshoot the website.
How and why we use information
We process information where necessary to provide the service, protect its security, administer authorised accounts, diagnose faults, comply with legal obligations and pursue our legitimate interests in operating and improving a reliable local-news index. Where consent is legally required, you may withdraw it at any time.
Publishers, audio and external links
Stories link to independent publisher websites. Some pages may play audio directly from a publisher’s server. Opening an external link or loading publisher-hosted media can disclose technical information, including your IP address, to that publisher or its service providers. Their own privacy policies then apply.
NewsRoom.ie also obtains public story and publisher information from the Coimisiún na Meán Journalism Schemes portal. Journalist bylines and publisher details displayed here relate to their professional published work.
Sharing and international processing
We share personal data only with service providers needed to host, secure and operate NewsRoom.ie, or where required by law. Some providers or publishers may process technical data outside the European Economic Area. Where Heart Media Ltd controls such a transfer, appropriate safeguards required by data-protection law are used.
Retention and security
Personal data is kept only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including security, account administration and legal requirements. Retention periods vary with the type of record. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, although no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing. You may also withdraw consent where processing relies on it. These rights can be limited where an exemption or competing legal obligation applies.
Privacy requests may be addressed to Heart Media Ltd. We may need to verify your identity before acting. You also have the right to complain to Ireland’s Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
Children and changes
NewsRoom.ie is a general news service and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly ask children to provide personal data. We may revise this policy as the service or law changes and will show the revised date here.
This policy should be read with the NewsRoom.ie Terms of use.
