Lack of second courtroom highlighted  - News - Roscommon Herald

The issue was raised again by Judge James Faughnan

The lack of court facilities in Roscommon Town was again highlighted at a recent sitting of the district court.

During the circuit court sessions, Roscommon District Court sits in Castlerea as there is only one courtroom in the temporary courthouse on the Racecourse Road.

This situation has been regularly criticised by members of the judiciary, including Judge James Faughnan.

At a sitting in Castlerea last week, the court heard that one of the accused accidentally went to the temporary courthouse and was making his way to Castlerea on public transport.

The judge accepted this explanation, saying “the sooner we get our second courtroom in Roscommon Town, the better”.

Last year, during a sitting, he said that he had alerted the Courts Service to the need to have two courtrooms, before the €1.5 million refurbishment of the former Fairyland Dance Hall.
