Councillors outlined their frustrations around the issue

Aonghus McDonagh Amendments to funding proposals and unclaimed funds were highlighted at a recent Boyle Municipal District meeting.

A motion to amend a community group’s funding application was passed, but councillors outlined their frustrations when situations like this arise.

Cllr Liam Callaghan stated that a lot of time goes into deciding where to spend the MD fund and that not every group that applies is approved or left satisfied.

Amendments and funds left unclaimed make the funding process more difficult according to the Fine Gael councillor.

Cllr Sean Moylan agreed with Cllr Callaghan calling for groups to be more specific in their applications, while Cllr Tom Crosby asked for groups to keep within the funding guidelines.

A Roscommon County Council spokesperson acknowledged that community groups put a lot of effort into applications, often providing detailed quotations.

On the issue of unclaimed funds, a council spokesperson said whatever isn’t claimed is lost out on for next year’s budget, but certain time allowances can be made.

The councillors agreed a system to transfer unclaimed funds into the next year’s budget should be introduced.
