Call for community building inclusion in redress scheme - Donegal News

DONEGAL County Council will request a timeline for a Defective Block Scheme to include community buildings.

This follows the passing of a motion by 100% Redress Cllr Ali Farren at the July plenary council meeting.

He asked for the council to contact Minister of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary and Junior Minister of State at the same department, Jerry Buttimer.

Cllr Farren brought the motion to highlight the fact that there is currently no Defective Block Scheme for any community buildings and to ask the ministers if they have a timeline for introducing one.

He said many community buildings have issues with defective concrete blocks.

“We have a private home scheme, we’re still waiting on the social scheme,” he said.

“I think we need to get ducks in a row. If we’re to wait for one to be up and running and to be finished before the community centres get considered, we could be here a long, long while.”

The motion was seconded by Cllr Farren’s party colleague, Cllr Joy Beard.

The council will now write to both ministers following the passing of the motion.
