Offaly assault charge against woman struck out but case against man goes ahead

AN assault charge against a woman was struck out but a similar one against a man was put back to September 16 next.

Two people, Dita Ciurar (43) and Razim Ciurar (46), both with the same address at Church Hill, Tullamore, had been charged earlier this year with assaulting a male, causing him harm, at a different address in Church Hill on December 19, 2025.

When Ms Ciurar's case was called at Tullamore District Court , Judge Andrew Cody was told the case against her could be struck out.

Sergeant Richard Thornton told Judge Cody that the DPP had directed that the charge against Mr Ciurar could be disposed of summarily on a plea of guilty only.

Both Dita Ciurar and Razim Ciurar were assisted in court by an interpreter and Judge Cody explained to Mr Ciurar that if he decided to plead not guilty the matter would go to the Circuit Court.

Sergeant Thornton said that details of the case against Mr Ciurar would be provided to the man's solicitor, John Quinn.

Judge Cody put the case back to September 16 next and told Mr Ciurar that he wished to know on that date if he was pleading guilty.

If not, the State would have to prepare a book of evidence for the Circuit Court.

He remanded the man on bail to appear before the District Court again on September 16 next and also certified for a Romanian speaking interpreter to be present.
