Bathroom extensions for Dromineer cottages

Dromineer Bay Developments Ltd has received planning permission for 10 individual single-story bathroom extensions to the rear of the existing two-story Waterside Cottages.

The company already has permission to demolish the old Dromineer Bay Hotel and build a mixed-use commercial and tourism enterprise with short-stay tourism accommodation. It sought to separate its original plan into individual planning applications, thereby allowing the cottage development to proceed independently of the hotel element of the wider site.

The council received an observation from the Dromineer and District Development Association seeking a condition that the derelict hotel be demolished prior to the bathroom extension development.

“For over 20 years, the derelict hotel has been an absolute eyesore,” the association wrote to the council. “It constitutes a health and safety hazard; as such, it has a significant negative environmental impact and utterly devalues Dromineer’s status as an iconic village and tourist heritage site within the county of Tipperary.”

The council granted permission subject to conditions, none of which require the prior demolition of the old hotel.
