A pedestrian crossing will be installed on a notoriously dangerous stretch of road in West Donegal designed to reduce speeding.
The green light has been given for funding for the installation of a pedestrian crossing on a notoriously dangerous road in West Donegal.
The road in Stranacorkra, Derrybeg, which has a 60kph speed limit, has seen eight collisions in less than a year.
The new pedestrian crossing will be now be located outside the An Chrannóg community building in Gweedore.
Sinn Féin Councillor, John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh, has campaigned tirelessly on this issue, and has raised the matter at several Glenties Municipal District meetings over the last number of years.
In an interview with Donegal Daily in May , he expressed his fears that "someone will be killed" and pleaded for Donegal County Council to take action on the matter.
He took to his Facebook account to express his delight at the formal announcement that funding has now been provided for a new pedestrian crossing outside the An Chrannóg.
"Great news! I've just been informed that money has been provided to install a pedestrian crossing here at An Chrannóg where there have been so many traffic issues in recent years.
"This is great news for the local community and well done to everyone who helped push to make this a reality," said Ó Fearraigh.
Ó Fearraigh also said that the work is expected to be carried out in November.
