Killonerry Bridge still not safe for use - News - Waterford News & Star

The bridge, which connects Piltown to Carrick-on-Suir, was structurally damaged by the floods last November.

Caroline Spencer Killonerry Bridge is still not fit for use as two local authorities prepare applications for capital funding to repair the historic bridge.

At the recent Piltown Municipal District meeting, Area Engineer for Kilkenny County Council John Tennyson informed gather Councillors about the current state of the structure.

"The Capital Projects are preparing application for us. The deadline for this submission is November," he said.

"Kilkenny County Council will be the leading authority along with Tipperary Council. Both authorities are working on this at the moment in regards to consent and planning statuses.

Councillor Pat Dunphy said that the state of the bridge has generated 'a lot of talk'. He said: "They see nothing happening, they don't hear anything about it and they're very concerned that this thing is going to take years rather than a year or so.

Councillors have called for the works to be 'pushed on' since April 2026.
