Only one lorry working in whole of Leitrim for patching roads

The need for patching on rural roads was highlighted at the recent Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District meeting.

Cllr Enda Stenson (Ind) submitted a motion in which he stated, "I request that we get the patching unit out on our rural roads as soon as possible. A lot of roads have suffered greatly due to the high volume of rain over the winter months."

“It's not as it was in relation to roads in the county, which is a huge pity,” Cllr Stenson commented.

His motion met with wide support. “A patching unit is required,” Cllr Paddy Farrell stated. “I hit a lot of potholes on my way to this meeting this morning,” he added.

The Fianna Fail representative went on to say that “there is only one lorry working in the county at present for patching.”

This comment was affirmed by District Cathaoirleach Maeve Reynolds (FG), who said, “one machine is not enough for the whole county.”

Cllr Sean McGowan (FF) told the meeting that “this time of year is difficult in relation to roads. A couple of men would be needed in each area to work on this.”

In response, District Engineer Emma Donohue advised councillors to “send in a list of roads that are an issue.”

"Please submit a list of the effected roads and the District Office will endeavour to schedule these roads into the Velocity Patcher's programme of works," the reply stated.
