Free cloth nappy starter kit available for Dublin-based families

The Cloth Nappy Incentive Scheme is being delivered by Dublin City Council in partnership with Voice Ireland to encourage parents to make the switch to more sustainable, reusable nappies

Dublin families are being offered a free cloth nappy starter kit to make the transition from disposable nappies to a sustainable, reusable alternative.

The Cloth Nappy Incentive Scheme was officially launched today at the Rotunda Hospital. Delivered by Dublin City Council in partnership with Voice Ireland, the scheme aims to support parents while reducing household waste . Disposable nappies contribute significantly to Ireland's waste and Lord Mayor Ray McAdam said this alternative can help Dublin families “protect the city we all share”.

“This Cloth Nappy Incentive Scheme is a simple but important example of climate action in everyday life. It supports parents, reduces waste, and helps more families make sustainable choices from the earliest days of their child’s life,” he said. “By working with Voice Ireland and the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin City Council is helping to make greener choices more accessible, more affordable, and more realistic for families across our city.”

Environmental charity Voice Ireland will provide a limited number of Dublin-based families with a voucher to purchase a comprehensive cloth nappy starter kit. This has been especially designed to support those who have not otherwise considered, or been able to access, reusable nappy options.

Each participating family will receive a voucher to redeem a Cloth Nappy Starter Kit from approved partner retailers. These kits are designed to provide everything needed to begin using cloth nappies from birth through to toilet training.

Head of Waste Management with DCC Barry Woods said this is about “making sustainable choices accessible for families. Abi O'Callaghan-Platt from Voice Ireland added that they have seen families who had never considered using cloth nappies impressed by the starter kit and now “plan to use them until potty training”.
