By Dermot Keyes · KCLR · 14 October 2026

The public sector work stoppage is continuing, with over 300,000 workers manning up to 2,000 picket lines across the country.

More than 300,000 workers are manning up to 2,000 picket lines at schools, hospitals, courts and local authorities.

It comes amid a pay dispute with the Government, after unions declined an invitation to attend talks this week.

A second day of strike action is planned for next Wednesday (October 21st) when services in our locality and elsewhere are set to close again.

KCLR News spoke to some of those picketing at St Luke’s General Hospital Carlow Kilkenny this morning to get their views on what led to this action and what may lie ahead.
