Car driven at speeds up to 120kmph.

A young motorist was disqualified from driving after engaging in a high-speed chase with gardaí in the Borrisokane area.

Nenagh District Court heard that gardaí were on mobile patrol at Rathmore around 9pm on April 10 last when they observed a Volkswagen Jetta being driven at speed towards them.

They gave chase in the direction of Tombricane and observed the car being driven at speeds up to 120kmph.

The driver failed to brake and kept cutting across onto the wrong side of the road.

The gardaí broke off the pursuit but subsequently stopped Jack McGrath (19) of Bellgrove, Borrisokane, who admitted to driving dangerously earlier. He offered no excuse for his behaviour. He had a male passenger with him.

Mr McGrath had no previous convictions. Judge Marie Keane disqualified him from driving for two years and imposed a €200 fine.
