Two family resource centres in Laois are due to benefit from a once-off capital investment boost.

The Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, announced on Monday, September 7 that all 136 family resource centres across Ireland will receive a once-off capital allocation of €10,000 by the end of this year.

Included in this is the Mountmellick Youth and Family Resource Centre as well as the Portlaoise Family Resource Centre. Both facilities will each receive a €10,000 boost in 2026.

The payment will allow the Laois centres to identify areas in need of attention, such as minor building works, accessibility, health and safety improvements, ICT hardware and infrastructure and sustainability improvements.

The announcement was welcomed by Laois TDs Willie Aird and Sean Fleming.

Commenting on the funding, Deputy Aird said: “Family Resource Centres provide an essential service to so many families across our communities in Laois.

The Fine Gael TD added: “Centres will now be able to invest this money into the areas that will benefit their communities the most. Having seen the work of these centres firsthand I’m delighted to see this funding and look forward to seeing Family Resource Centres in Laois develop further.”

Deputy Sean Fleming also welcomed the news, saying: “It provides Mountmellick Youth and Family Resource Centre and Portlaoise Family Resource Centre with flexibility to identify the investments that will make the greatest difference to the children, families and communities they serve.

“I would like to commend both Mountmellick Youth and Family Resource Centre and Portlaoise Family Resource Centre for the great and empowering work that they do on a continued basis and to keep up their great work.”
