Listen Back: Clear road map to bridge Mental health supports gap locally. There is a major lack of services when it comes to mental health

That's according to Co Cavan native, Connor Kelly; who says the system is broken when it comes to dealing with people with mental health issues.

Connor said the problem is a HSE/Government issue and not the staff that he says go above and beyond.

The local man says the people at the top at the HSE and the Government needs to do much more; when it comes to what is offered to people who are suffering with their mental health.

Independent Councillor in Co Cavan, Brendan Fay says the lack of mental health supports in the county is a major problem.

The local councillor is also a volunteer with SOSAD and says while there are services like SOSAD, the government should be doing more.

Cllr Fay says there needs to be more funding; and a clear road map to highlight how supports by the HSE are offered to people who may be struggling.

While, a welcome development in Monaghan confirmed Teach na Daoine Family Resource Centre in Monaghan is to receive €40,000; to deliver the new ‘Men Connect’ programme; helping to expand access to counselling and mental health supports for men in Cavan-Monaghan.

The new ‘Men Connect’ programme will provide wraparound supports through dedicated outreach, mental health promotion and counselling services delivered through Family Resource Centres.

Teach na Daoine Family Resource Centre in Monaghan is one of just three centres nationwide selected for the pilot programme and will receive €40,000 this year, rising to €80,000 in a full year.
