Galway's 'Golden goose' Parkmore hit by two-hour traffic delays after junction change

Workers in Parkmore Industrial Estate, described as Galway's "golden goose" and home to much of the city's MedTech sector, have reportedly been waiting up to two hours to leave car parks following changes at the Parkmore Hill junction.

Cllr Shane Forde (FG) said the delays are having a significant impact on workers and businesses and called on Galway County Council to address the junction redesign.

"The way we are treating these MedTech companies and their staff is nothing short of disgraceful," he said.

"Parkmore is the golden goose when it comes to commercial rates for this county, yet we are making infrastructure changes that are causing unnecessary frustration for workers and businesses"

He said he has been contacted daily by workers affected by the delays.

"They will have to revisit it as it is 100 per cent not working. People are contacting me every day about it. Staff were two hours in the car park trying to get out of it."

He said the disruption is particularly affecting workers employed across the three daily shifts operated by many companies in Parkmore.

"Staff are being delayed getting into work and delayed getting home to collect children, care for elderly parents and spend time with their families," he said.

"That is simply not acceptable. We need changes made without delay.”

The junction has been the subject of ongoing concern among local representatives. Cllr Andrew Reddington (FG) has repeatedly called on Galway County Council to review traffic arrangements in the area as it falls within Galway County Council's boundary.
