Cruinniú na nÓg, Ireland’s national day of free creativity for children and young people, is returning with over 40 free events taking place across Donegal.

On Saturday, June 6, venues and organisations right across Donegal are taking part, from Bundoran to Carndonagh, and Toraigh to Gleann Cholm Cille, Letterkenny, and Donegal Town.

The goal of Cruinniú na nÓg is to ensure that every child in the country has equal access and opportunity to explore their creativity and engage with the arts.

Offering fun creative activities in Family Resource Centres, Libraries, Arts Centres and Community Halls, there’s even a mini catapult that can be posted directly to your home – and all free of charge.

Donegal features strongly in the new season of TG4’s Moving West Donegal doctor retires after over three decades of dedicated service Flagship events on the day include Scoil Rac le Declan McClafferty ar Árainn Mhór, an afternoon of activities in Donegal Castle, with the Donegal Bluestacks Centre hosting its popular Creative Chaos once again at its centre. There is a strong as Gaeilge programme across several Gaeltacht areas, including Toraigh, Ghleann Cholm Cille, Oileán Árainn Mhóir, Gaoth Dobhair and An Clochan Liath.

There will be a Cruinniú na nóg Takeover in the RCC in Letterkenny, while the Night Time Economy-Sponsored Neon Glow Party for 13- to 17-year-olds will take place in Buncrana. An Grianán Youth Theatre will perform with other Youth Theatres in An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny.

This year’s Donegal Cruinniú na nÓg Young Ambassador is JJ McCaughey from Bundoran. JJ is interested in Dungeons and Dragons, drawing and Lego and is a member of Comhairle na nÓg, the Donegal Youth Council.

Cruinniú na nÓg is an initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme and is organised locally by Donegal County Council’s Culture & Creativity Team, in partnership with young people from the Donegal Youth Council, and the Family Resource Centres, Múintearas, Spraoi agus Sport, the Night Time Economy Advisor and Bundoran Community Centre.
