Polish Ambassador visits Donegal as part of EU Presidency

The Polish Ambassador to Ireland , Artur Michalski, recently visited Donegal .

Poland has been paired with Donegal, while Ireland hosts the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

The diplomat attended International Cultural Day, as part of the Mary from Dungloe International Arts Festival and received a handcrafted Donegal pen.

“This year’s celebration was particularly special as Ireland took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union,” organisers, Slavic Connect, said. “To honour this important moment, we were treated to a beautiful and graceful flag dance performed by a ballet dancer from the Forristal School of Dance, accompanied by “Ode to Joy,” the European Anthem.

“The performance was also a celebration of the special partnership between Donegal and the Embassy of Poland, which will continue throughout the period of the Irish Presidency.”

Donegal County Council makes the start of Ireland’s EU Presidency Mr Michalski has been the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland in Ireland since 2024, serving as the head of the Polish diplomatic mission.

“Being paired with Donegal during the Irish Presidency of the EU helps me get to know the local community better, enjoy the #MFD59 together, and commemorate Irish tunnel workers who lost their lives around the world,” Mr Michalski said.

He also went on a trip to Arranmore Island and visited Donegal Airport before travelling back to Dublin. “It was a pleasure to welcome Artur and showcase our airport and the important connections it provides for Donegal and the North West,” Donegal Airport said.
