A TEENAGER who was speeding at 154km/h on the M6 motorway had no driving licence , according to a prosecution which came before Tullamore District Court .

Judge Andrew Cody imposed fines and driving bans when he convicted Patrick Christopher McDonagh (19), Kishogue Park, Lucan, Dublin.

Mr McDonagh was not present in the District Court when the penalties were imposed for the offences at Kilbeg, Co Westmeath on July 30 last year when he was aged 18.

Garda Declan Miley, the Moate-based guard who prosecuted Mr McDonagh, said the accused had given his name when asked but did not produce documents afterwards.

Garda Miley said he sent a letter to the accused, as he had been directed to do at a previous court sitting by Judge Susan Fay.

The garda said Mr McDonagh had seven previous convictions and five of those were for theft.

He also had a conviction for “swindling” from Nanterre, France.

Judge Cody imposed one €300 fine for speeding and another fine of €300 for not having a licence.
