Longford County Council have unveiled plans to construct two new housing developments.

Set to be located in Longford Town and Granard, the proposals were the subject of two Part 8 planning applications posted to the council’s website.

The developments will consist of 15 houses on Park Road in Longford town, and 10 houses on Granard’s Main Street.

A mock up design of the proposed development situated at St Rita’s, 2 Bóthar Na Páirce, Glack | Longford County Council The council’s plans to construct a new residential development on Park Road - specifically at ‘St Rita’s’, 2 Bóthar Na Páirce, Glack - will first involve the proposed demolition of the structures currently on the site, namely a derelict bungalow, extension, garage, and a shed.

The 15 houses constructed will consist of three one-bed two-person single storey houses, three two-bed four-person single storey houses, one three-bed five person single storey houses, and eight two-bed four-person two storey houses.

The development is also proposed to include a new roadway for the development, a pedestrian accessway from Park Road, car parking spaces, as well as the provision of public amenity spaces, landscaping, public lighting, bin storage and bicycle parking.

According to the application for the proposed new housing development for Granard, specifically at 54 Main Street, plans will include the demolition of a derelict cottage, which was linked to the now-demolished former Hourican’s Hotel.

The project itself will consist of 10 own-door units in four three-storey blocks.

These will include two one-bed units, six two-bed units, two three-bed units in addition to a new roadway for the development, a pedestrian accessway from Main Street, and car parking spaces to the rear of the site. The development will also include the provision of public amenity spaces, including landscaping, public lighting and bicycle parking.

Full plans for both developments are currently available to view in the planning section on the Longford County Council website.
