Man pleads guilty to drink driving in Limerick city centre

A man has come before Limerick District Court for a drink driving offence.

Keith O’Neill, 33, with an address at Park View Drive, Greystones, Limerick, made an appearance at Limerick District Court.

Prosecuting Sergeant Denis Waters detailed in garda evidence that Mr O’Neill was stopped by gardaí on suspicion of drunk driving at Ballycummin Avenue, Raheen on November 30, 2024. Mr O’Neill was conveyed to Henry Street garda station, and upon testing was found to be over the drink driving limit.

The court heard Mr O’Neill has six previous convictions, which consist of section four and section six public order offences.

Due to the withdrawal of free legal aid services by solicitors in protest of new reforms, Mr O’Neill chose to represent himself in court. Mr O’Neill told the court “I want to put my hand up,” and admitted he had been drink driving.

The judge disqualified Mr O’Neill from driving for two years, and fined him €500.
