Honeymoon speeder gets invitation to Court

By Tony Galvin · Galway Advertiser · 5 June 2026

WHEN Ballinasloe District Court was informed that a Dublin woman caught speeding was on her honeymoon at the time, the news prompted much hilarity.

“She hardly got the car as a wedding present,” Judge James Faughnan quipped.

Carol Philips, 4 Whitechurch Grove, Ballyboggan, Dublin was detected on July 2 last travelling at 143kph on the motorway, with a speed limit of 120kph.

The defendant failed to show up in Court to answer the charge. Adjourning the case until the July 2 sitting, the Judge said: “Maybe we’ll send her an invitation.”
