The need for an accessible parking space in the village of Kilnaleck has been highlighted.

It is one of the only villages in the Co Cavan not to have one.

Accessible car parking spaces are strictly reserved for holders of the disabled parking permits.

These spaces are essential for people with disabilities and immobility needs to allow them to enjoy safe and independent access to services.

Cllr Trevor Smith wants to see such a space provided for on the Main Street of Kilnaleck.

He said the area can be very busy and it could mean that someone with a disability may not be able to get to the likes of the pharmacy or the local shop.

Cavan County Council confirmed the space is being planned for and progress will be seen shortly on delivering an accessible space in the village.

A Cavan based disability advocate says every town and village needs to have accessible parking spaces

David Cahill from Ballyjamesduff says the impact on blue badge holders either over the lack of spaces or when they are being misused.

David says we all have a role to play in society in addressing this issue and allowing people to live an independent life.
