A MAN charged with the assault of a teenage boy in Limerick city centre has been brought before Limerick District Court.

John Bourke, 39, with an address at Novas McGarry House on St Alphonsus Street, is charged with assault causing harm and the production of an article on Parnell Street, Limerick city on June 12, 2026.

This Tuesday, July 2, Garda evidence from Fiona Hynes detailed that Mr Bourke was arrested and cautioned at on July 1, at 7.03 am.

Gardaí objected to Mr Bourke being granted bail, which was accepted by Mr Bourke’s legal representation.

Barrister-at-law Joseph McMahon applied for legal aid on Mr Bourke’s behalf.

Mr McMahon told Judge John King that Mr Bourke is not working at the moment, and is in receipt of social welfare.

Judge King granted Mr Bourke legal aid, and remanded Mr Bourke to remain in custody until his next appearance in court, later in July.

The court heard that directions from the Director of Public Prosecution are outstanding.
