20 alleged sexual offences

A MAN appeared before Letterkenny District Court on Monday charged with 20 alleged sexual offences.

The court was told the alleged offences took place over a period of time between March and December 2023.

Garda Pauline Doherty served the Book of Evidence on the defendant at 10.30am at Letterkenny Courthouse. The defendant, who is aged in his 30s, cannot be named.

Solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian said that the defendant would not be signing a plea.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court the Director of Public Prosecutions was sending the case forward to trial at Letterkenny Circuit Court, commencing on May 5.

Judge Daly administered the Alibi warning and a Section 56 Order was made to make garda recordings of interviews available to the defendant’s legal team.

An application for legal aid was made. Mr Dorrian sought one junior and one senior counsel in the case.

The accused was remanded on bail on the same terms and conditions as previously set down by the court.
