Leinster House to hear directly from those affected by Creeslough tragedy

Survivors and families who lost loved ones in the Creeslough tragedy will have an opportunity to speak in Leinster House.

The event titled “The Creeslough Tragedy: Hearing from Victims’ Families” will take place on Wednesday at 4pm.

Hosted by Sinn Féin Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD, it will provide an opportunity for those affected to speak directly to TDs and Senators about the devastating impact of the October 2022 explosion.

Ten lives were claimed, including Shauna Flanagan-Garwe and her father, Robert Garwe (50), Catherine O’Donnell (39) and her 13-year-old son, James Monaghan. Leona Harper, aged 14, and Jessica Gallagher (24) were killed along with shop assistant Martina Martin (49), James O’Flaherty (48), Martin McGill (49) and Hugh Kelly (59).

Families will discuss the lasting effects of the tragedy on their lives, their search for answers in the years since the explosion, and the reasons they are seeking the establishment of a full public inquiry. It is intended to allow elected representatives to hear first-hand from those most directly affected by the tragedy, gaining a deeper understanding of the concerns and experiences of the families.

The event follows on from a meeting the families had earlier in the year with Sinn Féin Deputies Mary Lou McDonald, Pearse Doherty and Pádraig Mac Lochlainn and Sinn Féin Councillors John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh and Gerry McMonagle.
