Donegal TD Charles Ward has told how a frightening noise that sounded 'like a gunshot' turned out to be new and widening cracks in his home.

The 100% Redress Party TD shared a video on social media, in which he showed large, wide cracks on the outside walls of his family home.

Deputy Ward revealed that, in the moments before the video was taken, he heard a noise 'like a gunshot' and his Collie dog began crying.

Believing the noise to be fireworks, Deputy Ward ran outside and found more cracks on the outside walls of his home.

He said the noise came from: "New cracks and old cracks widening."

He continued: "Above this is a bison slab and my daughter's bedroom. Myself and Angela are waiting for the new legislation to avail of a technical review.

"We..(as in all affected homeowners) have run out of time. Shame on all those who have voted to abandon us, voters and politicians alike. Vile."

In the video, Deputy Ward was able to show the width of the long crack on the wall by placing his finger inside it.

He said: "God help us all. If they do not get their finger out and sort this out quick, somebody is going to be killed.

"That's the reality of what is going on. This is my house, but this is everybody's house that is affected by defective concrete."
