It was announced earlier this year that St Attracta's National School in Ballaghaderreen was to be included in the DEIS programme.

DEIS is a Department of Education initiative aimed at delivering equality of opportunity in schools.

The local community in Ballaghaderreen had called for extra supports when it came to childcare, education, and healthcare following the decision to accomodate Syrian refugees at a former hotel in the town in 2017.

The announcement of extra funding for St Attracta's, which is considered a disadvantaged school, was widely welcomed.

Dan Dooner visited the school and spoke with Principal Noel Loftus, Deputy Principal Ciana Callanan, and 4th class students Laoise and Grace.
