During the early stages of the meeting, Labour Party councillor motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to contact the ESB and to ‘insist that, in the interest of safety and security, that the three new ESB connections required for the public lights in Clonmullion are installed as soon as possible’.

Her motion was seconded by the Cathaoirleach / Mayor of the MD, Cllr Mark Leigh.

She also claimed that some residents in this area (which has ‘over 200 residents’ according to Cllr Breslin) have been without ‘adequate’ lighting for the past four months.

However, KCC added that the commissioning of the remaining lights is ‘dependent’ on the provision of three new electricity connections by ESB Networks.

KCC elaborated: “Applications for the required connections have been submitted to ESB Networks and KCC has engaged with ESB Networks regarding the matter.

“While KCC has requested that the connections be provided as soon as possible, connection works are scheduled and undertaken by ESB Networks and are outside the direct control of the council.

“The council recognises the concerns regarding safety and security and will continue to liaise with ESB Networks and seek to expedite the connection process wherever possible.”

KCC concluded: “Once the connections are installed, the remaining public lights can be energised and brought into operation without delay.”

Furthermore, a representative for KCC who was also present at the meeting assured Cllr Breslin that they would speak to KCC’s Public Lighting Team in an attempt to resolve the situation at Clonmullion.
