Motorist (31) drove wrong way on Letterkenny’s Main Street - Donegal News

By Lauren Wall · Donegal News · 30 September 2026

A MOTORIST who drove against the one way system of Letterkenny’s Main Street said he “didn’t know the area”’.

Aaron Pennie, of Newbury Avenue, Coolock, Dublin, was arrested on October 27, 2025.

The 31 year old failed to show up for his hearing at Letterkenny District Court on Tuesday.

Garda Barry Gallagher told the court how he witnessed Pennie driving a grey Fiat Scudo against the one way system on Main Street and activated blue lights to stop him from travelling any further.

He said when he questioned Pennie he told him he “didn’t know the area”.

Garda Gallagher added that there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from the defendant.

The Garda carried out a roadside breathalyser test which Pennie failed.

This is an offence contrary to Section 4 of the Road Traffic Act 2010.

Pennie was later released and issued with a fixed charge notice which he has failed to pay.

A summons was then issued but the defendant did not show up for Tuesday’s court sitting.

Judge Emile Daly ordered that Pennie be disqualified from driving for one year.
