Concerns over traffic safety in this Kildare region

Residents in one County Kildare region have expressed concerns over the safety of one road.

The concerns were relayed by Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender to Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Wednesday, June 17 last.

During the early stages of the meeting, Cllr Pender motioned for KCC to carry out a traffic safety assessment at Standhouse Lawns in Newbridge, and to also ‘identify suitable traffic calming measures [at this location], including traffic calming, signage, road markings, speed monitoring and any other appropriate measures’.

According to Cllr Pender, he wanted KCC to carry out these actions in order to ‘address resident’s concerns’.

Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender | FILE PHOTO In response to Cllr Pender’s motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting that the MD Office would carry out an assessment at Standhouse Lawns.

KCC also told Cllr Pender: “If traffic calming measures are deemed to be required, then it will be added to the list of locations identified for traffic calming measures.”

Speaking further on the matter, Cllr Pender noted that the subject was previously raised by both Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer and her party colleague, Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer.

He also claimed to KCC that although the location is near a school, some motorists are reckless in the area.

“Some drivers think that they’re at Mondello,” Cllr Pender added.
