The matter initially arose when Labour Party Cllr Mark Leigh, who is also the Mayor of the MD, motioned for KCC to ‘address ongoing speeding concerns in Walterstown and Nurney through appropriate traffic-calming and speed-monitoring measures’.
His motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Veralouise Behan.

KCC also said: “The MD office is continuing to monitor and review this [situation].”
Speaking further on the matter, Mayor Leigh said that while he acknowledged that the MD office ‘has carried out a lot of works over the years’ in these regions, he emphasised that ‘there are still some speeding issues, especially from the Monasterevin side coming into Nurney’.
This prompted an engineer for KCC, who was also present at the meeting, to tell Mayor Leigh that the MD office will ‘continue to look at’ remedies to the speeding issues in both locations.
