Minister lauds 'unprecedented' 28% increase in new build social houses for Louth

Louth has seen its new build social housing delivery increase by 28% in 2025.

562 new social houses were built in the county in 2025, in what is a rare win for the Department of Housing. The over 9,000 that were built nationwide the most in a single year since the creation of the State.

Minister for Housing James Browne said there is now an "unprecedented level of delivery of new-build social homes across the country".

“While this is a record year, we know the work must continue. My focus now is on sustaining this momentum, scaling delivery even further and ensuring that more people in Louth benefit from access to high-quality, secure housing,” he said.

Of the 562 social houses that were built, 115 were by Louth County Council with a further 322 delivered by Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs). There were also 125 Part V acquisitions in the county last year.

Just Dublin City, South Dublin, and Fingal delivered more new build social houses than Louth in 2025.

Local Fine Gael TD Paula Butterly said the latest figures show that "progress is already being made".

“I’m delighted to see that 562 new build social homes were delivered for Louth in 2025."

“Behind these figures are the people, individuals, couples and families, who will now own their own homes."

Deputy Butterly said the government must continue to build on this "serious momentum" and "keep delivering more homes for Louth".
