'Sorry your mother is a c***': Man in Limerick court breaching barring order twice

A MAN has been convicted of two breaches of a barring order contrary to section 33 of the Domestic Violence Act at Limerick District Court.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, had a scheduled visit with the children he shares with his ex-partner in February, 2026. The visit took place in a mobile home.

Over the course of the visit, he told the children “sorry your mother is a c***”, which his ex-partner could hear outside of the mobile home.

A breach of the barring order also occurred in December 2026. Over the course of a phone call, the man put her in fear. Judge Patricia Harney said: “I am not happy at all there was a breach followed by another breach.”

Solicitor Sarah Ryan, representing the man, said her client paid for the mobile home, and the woman changed the locks. She said there has not been a breach of a barring order since February.

The judge said: “He does it in December and nothing happens, and then he becomes brazen.”

She pointed out that “he referred to her with a four letter word in front of the children.” The judge added he is “slow on the uptake on what a barring order is.”

Sergeant Denis Waters said the man has 38 previous convictions - which include dangerous driving, drink driving, and a number of road traffic and public order offences.

Judge Harney convicted and sentenced the man to three months’ imprisonment, which was suspended for 18 months.
