Play Add to playlist The European Union is proposing a range of measures aimed at making social media sites safer for children.

If the plans become law under-13’s would be banned from online platforms, while 13-15 year old’s would have limited access.

The proposals come as more countries around the world seek to better regulate social media sites, with more than 20 having taken steps to limit access for young people.

The Tanaiste has previously said that the government favours a social media ban for under-16’s, but says the government would prefer an EU-wide approach to tackling the issue.

Some are saying the government are taking too long to act and need to do more to protect children from the dangers of social media.

Our reporter Padraig Corrigan visited St. McCartan’s College in Monaghan town to find out what students and staff thought about social media and whether they thought it should be better regulated.
