Anger as derelict property in Dungloe set on fire - Donegal Daily

There is anger in Dungloe following the arson of a derelict property in Dungloe last night. The ghost estate has been vacanct since 2011.

A derelict property in an abandoned housing estate has been set on fire in West Donegal.

Radharc An Seascan, is an housing estate that was built in Meenmore, Dungloe in 2007.

However, the houses began to sink into the peat bog it was built on shortly after completion.

It was given the nickname locally as 'The Titanic' because all the houses in the estate were all sinking.

The estate has been totally vacant since 2011, but it has been subjected to continuous vandalism over the last 15 years.

Almost every single central heating boiler has been stolen from the homes in the estate.

Last night, is just the latest degradation in the Radharc An Seascan saga.

Local councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig expressed his disgust at the arson that carried out last night in a video he posted earlier today on Facebook.

Mac Giolla Easbuig has been very vocal in his criticism over the handling of the estate, which is an eyesore on the outside of Dungloe.

He has repeatedly called for those responsible for the development to be held to account.

"I have been highlighting the decay of this housing estate for a number of years, and I've raised the fact that developers involved where possibly unregulated, and how sad it is that people lost homes that they bought. I remember my sister and I hanging blinds in most of these properties when they were built, and then the whole estate started to sink.

"It's so sad to see what they have lost. Then last night somebody decided to set one of the houses on fire, and that's just not acceptable. It's not acceptable to put the lives of people and those from emergency services at risk. Absolutely desperate that nothing has been done about these houses to date," said Mac Giolla Easbuig.
