THE Progress Flag will be flown over Letterkenny Public Services Centre for the upcoming Letterkenny Pride festival.

A motion to fly the flag during Letterkenny Pride, which takes place later this month, was passed at today’s meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.

The call came from Independent Cllr Declan Meehan and was seconded by 100% Redress Cllr Tomás Seán Devine.

Cllr Meehan said the Progress Flag represents the LGBTQ+ community, as well as ethnic minority groups who are often marginalised.

“Letterkenny Pride has become a staple of the LGBTQ+ community calendar,” he said.

“It is celebration, solidarity and protest, with thousands taking part.”

Cllr Meehan praised the Letterkenny Pride Committee for including family-friendly events and local musicians in its calendar.

He added that flying the Progress Flag over Letterkenny Public Services Centre again this year would be a gesture to show members of the LGBTQ+ community that they are valued and included.

In seconding the motion, Cllr Devine said the Letterkenny Pride parade saw a “tremendous turnout” last year.

The fourth annual Letterkenny Pride festival will take place from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31 this year.
