These bollards have proved contentious

Caoimhin Treacy KILDARE County Council has yet to decide on a proposal to remove bollards at the Basin Street/Abbey Street junction in Naas.

At a recent meeting of Naas Municipal District, cllr Fintan Brett asked the council if the bollards could be removed to allow a one-way route onto Abbey Street and provide Canal bank residents with an alternative access point when Town Hall Lane is blocked by delivery trucks.

Senior engineer Chris Galvin’s written response said that the local authority has not decided on the proposal. The council’s transport department and the National Transport Authority (NTA) are reviewing the Naas to Sallins Active Travel Scheme and its impact on residents and users. As part of that review, the Abbey Street/Basin Street junction is being examined.
