Longford Gardaí this week reinforced their warning about bogus door-to-door traders during a community safety talk delivered to a group at Ballymahon Library as part of the Bealtaine Festival.

Members of the Longford Community Policing Unit, Garda Lorraine Shiel and Garda Anthony Scanlon, addressed a local group on a range of topics including home security, personal safety, fraud awareness and the dangers posed by scam callers, rogue trade workers and sellers.

The renewed warnings come following incidents in North Longford recently in which residents were visited by bogus tradesmen posing as council workers offering goods for sale as well as home maintenance services.

Gardaí have urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious when dealing with unexpected callers and advised refraining from opening the door to unknown individuals, particularly when alone or feeling vulnerable.

They also advised the public not to feel pressured into agreeing to any work on their property and to avoid paying cash for unplanned services.

The talk forms part of ongoing efforts by Gardaí to engage with communities and raise awareness around fraud prevention and personal safety.
