A Donegal man has been remanded in custody following 14 alleged breaches of a protection order - in the two days after the order was imposed.

The man, who is in his 30s and cannot be named for legal reasons, was brought before Ballyshannon District Court by Gardai.

The man was arrested on Thursday at 7.40pm under section 35 of the Domestic Violence Act for an offence contrary to section 33 of the same Act.

The man made no reply when cautioned and he was subsequently conveyed to a Garda station in Donegal, where he was charged with 14 offences and subsequently brought before the court.

He is accused of 14 separate breaches of a protection order over a two-day period after the granting of the order at a District Court in Donegal.

All of the alleged offences are contrary to section 33 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2018.

The man’s solicitor was not present in court and Court presenter Sergeant Maurice Doyle advised that the State would be objecting to bail after the defendant asked if he could put up his own cash bond in a bid to get bail.

The matter was briefly adjourned and when it was re-called the man confirmed that he was not applying for bail. The man confirmed that he would seek bail at a sitting of Letterkenny District Court next week.

Rain in store for Donegal today as county faces Storm Beola tomorrow

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham remanded the man in custody to appear before Letterkenny District Court.
