'Farcical' - Lack of bins to tackle 'ridiculous' amounts of dog fouling on Dundalk road

The lack of bins on Mount Avenue in Dundalk has been described as 'farcical' by Fianna Fáil councillor Seán Kelly.

Cllr Kelly, who is also the Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council said he has been raising the issue with the local authority for "a number of months".

He said the amount of dog fouling on the €7 million road is "ridiculous" yet "there is not one single public bin".

Cllr Kelly acknowledged that there are "very responsible dog owners" but said "others are not playing by the rules" and are "letting everyone down".

He said the "extremely popular walking route" needs just "one or two bins" and "it’s not much to ask for when you spend €7m on a road - it just seems farcical".

A spokesperson for Louth County Council told the April meeting of the Dundalk Municipal District that the local authority were looking at "potentially" installing dog fouling bins on Mount Avenue.

He said it would look at introducing full bins "further down the line".
