There hasn’t been a Just Transition for communities around a now defunct power station in County Longford.
There hasn't been a Just Transition for communities around a now defunct power station in County Longford.
That's according to a well-known businessman in the Lanesboro-Ballyleague area.
The ESB-owned Lough Ree Power Station closed in 2020 and around 150 workers were laid off.
The European Union introduced the Just Transition Fund in January 2020.
It was designed to support communities around Europe as they transitioned from fossil fuels.
Dan Dooner spoke with local newsagent Joe O'Brien and former power station worker John Sorohan for Let's Talk recently:
