CCTV will be installed to address a 'litter blackspot' in Dundalk according to Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr Seán Kelly.

It comes after Louth County Council cleared litter in the alleyway which connects the Holy Redeemer Church and the Redeemer Resource Centre in the town.

In separate social media posts, Cllr Kelly and Sinn Féin councillor Antóin Watters praised the local authority for the clean up.

Cllr Kelly confirmed that CCTV will now be put in place to "deter future dumping".

He also said a "regular maintenance plan" will also be put in place.

There had been concerns that the alleyway was under the control of the church, which prohibited Louth County Council from carrying out works.

However, Cllr Kelly said a "historical agreement" which dates back to the 1970s, between the church and Council, allows the local authority to maintain it.

Cllr Watters said Louth County Council's work was "fantastic" and called for the location to be included in the anti-dumping initiative for 2026.
