Forestry work has damaged road

There was a call for a road to be repaired at the recent meeting of Ballinamore Municipal District.

Cllr Róisín Kenny (SF) highlighted the issue of the L551510 in Cornagher. “Is there any timeline for when this road will be repaired as it is in very poor condition after the removal of large amounts of forestry? I have been contacted by several residents who are anxious that these works be carried out as soon as possible and not left in this state over the winter,” her motion stated.

“A lot of forestry was taken out of this area. There are still two loads to be taken out. This road would want to be fixed before winter. The road has subsided. I have sought clarification from the forestry company. I look forward to the reply from the forestry company,” Cllr Kenny told the meeting.

The motion was supported by Cllr Gary Prior (FF). “An elderly person lives on this road. They travel by bus to a day centre. The driver of the bus expressed doubts about being able to travel down the road,” he commented.

Cllr Prior went on to say that the forestry companies working in that area could all contribute towards fixing the road. “There are five forests in this area. These companies should be able to come up with a few thousand euro each,” he stated.

A written reply from the council stated, “The Ballinamore District Office is in communication with the forestry company regarding the condition of the L-55151-0 in Cornagher following forestry operations.

“The council has requested that the necessary repair works be carried out as soon as possible. Members will be updated once the forestry company has confirmed a programme and date for the completion of these works. In the meantime, the situation will continue to be monitored,” the reply added.
