A District Court judge has warned a young motorist caught driving at 135km/h in Donegal that he is fortunate not to be facing a more serious charge.

Conor Finan appeared before Ballyshannon District Court charged with a speeding offence on the N15 at Ballymagroarty Irish on November 30, 2025.

Finan, a 20-year-old of Atlantic View, Strandhill, Co Sligo, represented himself in court and indicated that he was pleading guilty.

Garda Sergeant Oliver Devaney outlined to the court that Gardai were operating a speed check at 8.25pm when they clocked Finan at 135km/h in an area covered by a 100km/h speed limit.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham told Finan: “You are fortunate that it is just a speeding summons for that reading.”

Asked if he wanted to address the court, Finan replied: “Just to apologise”.

Judge Cunningham told the defendant that there was “learning to be had”. Just Cunningham ordered Finan to complete the ProSocial Driving Course and make a €250 contribution towards the course.
