Uninsured drivers caught and banned from driving in Letterkenny

TWO Leinster men have been disqualified from driving after separate cases of driving without insurance came before Letterkenny District Court on Monday.

Isse Idow (24) of Park Street, Dundalk, was charged with driving without insurance at Lower Main Street, Letterkenny, on January 18, 2026.

Garda Cassidy told the court he stopped a car after the Garda system showed it had no insurance. Idow produced a full driving licence and chose to produce a certificate of insurance at Dundalk Garda Station, but failed to do so.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins confirmed Idow had no previous convictions.

Judge Emile Daly convicted and fined Idow €100, with four months to pay, for failing to produce insurance, and €450, with four months to pay, for driving without insurance. He was disqualified from driving for two years.

In a separate case, Iosif Donea (40) of Ellensborough Copse, Tallaght, Dublin 24, was charged with driving without insurance at Kilconnell, Kilmacrennan, on June 14, 2025.

Garda Cassidy told the court Donea admitted he did not have the car insured. Garda Sergeant Jim Collins confirmed Donea had no previous convictions.

Judge Daly convicted and fined Donea €100, with four months to pay, for failing to produce insurance, and €450 for driving without insurance. Donea was also disqualified from driving for two years.
