Local social worker fined €500 for driving while uninsured - Courts - Laois Nationalist

A SOCIAL worker was fined €500 when he pleaded guilty at last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court to driving while uninsured.

Serge Kanyamuhanga (30), Lake Drive, Kilminchy, Portlaoise was before the court for the offence that took place at Rossdarragh Hill, Rathevan, Portlaoise on 6 February.

When stopped, Mr Kanyamuhanga produced his driving license and told the garda that he would bring his insurance documents to Portlaoise Garda Station, but he failed to do so.

Defending solicitor Philip Meagher said that his client works as a social worker with Nua Health Care and that his car had been in for repair and at the time that gardaí stopped him he was driving another car.

He said at the time, Mr Kanyamuhanga, who has no previous convictions, “was in a panic and asked his sister for a loan of her car. His own insurance, which he had at the time, was open drive, but it was vehicle specific (insured to drive his own car only).” Judge Andrew Cody ruled as outlined.
