At around the halfway point of this meeting, the Mayor of the MD, Cllr Mark Leigh, brought up the subject via the submission of the following question: “Can Kildare County Council (KCC) provide members with the latest safety report on the Moone Timolin cycleway that was compiled by Transport Infrastructure Ireland in September?”

In response to Mayor Leigh’s query, KCC said: “The project is currently in the evaluation and assessment phase following the completion of construction works earlier this year.

“This phase includes the completion of various surveys and in person engagement to gather information about all elements of the scheme.”

KCC also told Mayor Leigh: “A further update will be provided once this phase of the project is complete.”

The matter was initially raised by Cllr Mark Leigh (Labour Party, LEFT), while Cllr Ivan Keatley (Fine Gael, RIGHT) expressed concerns over claims made on social media | PHOTOGRAPH CREDIT: KILDARECOCO.IE Mayor Leigh responded that he was happy with KCCs’ report.

Following Mayor Leigh’s reply, Fine Gael Cllr Ivan Keatley spoke.

He stressed to KCC that he wanted the update released as soon as possible.

Cllr Keatley explained that he wanted the update as there had been ‘scaremongering’ in relation to this matter.

He elaborated: “Someone on social media has been saying that one thing is the cause [of the issues in this area].”

“It could be the main reason, but it may not be,” Cllr Keatley added. “It’s important to get the full picture.”
