Public roads survey sought for this Kildare MD

A survey for all public roads located within one County Kildare Municipal District (MD) has been requested.

Fine Gael Cllr Declan Ryan submitted the request to Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Celbridge-Leixlip MD meeting, which took place on Friday, July 17 last.

Specifically, Cllr Ryan motioned for KCC to undertake a survey of all public roads within the MD in order to ‘identify road signs where visibility is impaired by overgrown vegetation, hedgerows, trees, or other growth’.

He also urged KCC (via his motion) to implement a ‘programme of maintenance in order to remove such growth and restore full visibility of all regulatory, warning, directional and informational road signs in the interest of road safety’.

In response to the motion, KCC had this to say: “The MD Office outdoor crews, as part of their general summer maintenance schedule clear vegetative obstructions from roadside signs.

“This is an ongoing weekly activity carried out throughout the spring and summer growth periods.”

KCC added that the the works are both ‘planned proactive works’ and ‘reactive where necessary’.

Cllr Ryan subsequently told KCC that he accepted its report.
