Camry, an LGBT + youth group that operates in both Cavan and Monaghan is offering young local people from that community a safe space.

That's according to Sharon Casey who is a volunteer with Camry which stands for Cavan & Monaghan Rainbow Youth which is an LGBTi+ youth project.

Sharon says there has been a marked increase in abuse towards members of the youth group especially in the past year.

She says she has young people from across Cavan and Monaghan that are from the LGBT plus community coming to her to highlight incidents of abuse towards them.

She says the group that been operating for over a decade in both Cavan and Monaghan.

Groups operate twice a week, one in Cavan and one in Monaghan and Sharon says there is ongoing support available everyday once it’s needed. She says the group allows them to be their authentic self and somewhere that they feel safe at all times. Ronan Gargan called along to the local youth group to find out how important the group is to the young people that attend the groups.
